General Contractor (CGC)
Everything you need for your Florida General Contractor license: hand-tabbed and highlighted book sets shipped in 48 hours, rental packages, exam prep courses, exam registration, and your DBPR application done with you. The Florida GC exams are open book. Passing is a preparation problem, and preparation is what we hand you.
What a Florida CGC license lets you build
The Certified General Contractor (CGC) is Florida's unlimited building license. Commercial towers, custom homes, multifamily, any height, any contract size, anywhere in the state. Trade work like electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and roofing still belongs to those licensed trades, so you subcontract it, but the CGC sits at the top of the job. If you want the license that never caps your ceiling, this is it.
What the exam actually looks like
Florida requires three exams for the CGC: Contract Administration (60 scored questions, 4.5 hours), Project Management (60 scored questions, 4.5 hours), and Business and Finance (120 scored questions, 6.5 hours). Every exam is open book and multiple choice, the passing score is 70 percent, and testing is computer-based at Pearson VUE centers daily. Registration runs through Professional Testing, Inc. Only books on the state's approved reference list are allowed in the room, which is exactly the set we build for you.
What we hand you
The complete approved reference set in current approved editions, hand tabbed and highlighted to where the answers live. Book sets ship within 48 hours or we credit you $100. Prefer not to own a library? Rent the same set with both prep courses included and a refundable deposit. We also register you for the exams and complete your DBPR application with you, line by line, so it goes in clean the first time.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Florida general contractor exam open book?
Yes. All three Florida GC exams are open book. You may only bring materials on the state's approved reference list, which is why hand-tabbed, highlighted books matter: the exam is a timed lookup race, not a memory test.
How many exams do I need to pass for a CGC license?
Three: Contract Administration (60 scored questions, 4.5 hours), Project Management (60 scored questions, 4.5 hours), and Business and Finance (120 scored questions, 6.5 hours). The minimum passing score on each is 70 percent.
Can I take the NASCLA exam instead of the Florida GC trade exams?
Florida accepts the NASCLA Accredited Examination in place of the Contract Administration and Project Management exams for certified general contractor. You still take the Florida Business and Finance exam. Confirm current acceptance with the DBPR before registering.
Do I need experience to qualify for a Florida GC license?
Florida requires four years of construction experience, or a combination of college credit and experience, with at least one year in a supervisory role. Call us and we will map your fastest qualifying path before you spend a dollar.
Can I rent the books instead of buying them?
Yes. The rental package includes the full tabbed and highlighted book set plus both prep courses. Part of your payment is a refundable book deposit: return the books within 4 months and the deposit comes back.
How fast do the books ship?
Stocked book sets ship within 48 hours or we credit you $100. Every set uses the current approved editions, hand tabbed and highlighted before it leaves.
